Seeking Humble Hearts

Jonah 2:1-2
During any moment, prayer can be my reflex.
God’s reflex is to listen.
- God listens beyond the physical.
- Tertullian “Not of the voice but of the heart is God the Hearer. Do the ears of God wait for sound?”
- Augustine “Many silent with their lips, have cried aloud with their heart; many, noisy with their lips, could, with their heart turned away, obtaining nothing. If then thou cries, cry within, where God heareth.”
- God listens for humility.
- Psalm 51:16-17
Passionate praying can come from affection or affliction.
Jonah 2:3-7
- 1 Kings 8:38-39
- Even when everything about me is sinking down, the direction of my heart can point up to the Lord in faith.
Jonah 2:8
- KJV Verse 8 “They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.”
- Romans 12:8 “Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.”
Jonah 2:9-10
- The life-sustained in the fish was a great sign, but the greatest sign for all today is the life-resurrected of Jesus Christ.
