About

Highland Kids is an exciting place for children to come and learn about God. Our goal is to give children many opportunities to explore God’s Word that they may see God and know His plan and purpose for their lives. Whether it is through our creative and meaningful lessons each Sunday morning or our AWANA program on Wednesday nights, we desire to come alongside parents, to teach the truth found in the Bible.

Everything we do is designed to help children build relationships with their peers, leaders, but most importantly, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We provide many opportunities for these relationships to develop through Sunday Morning programs, AWANA, camps, and special events.  We encourage every child to be involved in all these activities.

July 5

This week we are learning that Jesus healed ten lepers. Only one came back, throwing himself at the feet of Jesus.
Clearly this man had been healed not only physically but spiritually also. We are also sick with sin and condemned to death. By dying on the cross, Jesus saved us and gave us a greater healing, the forgiveness of our sins..

Kid's Connection/Connect 56 We believe that families should worship together in one of the Gathering times which meet in the Life Center. Children will gather for a time of learning each Sunday morning on the Children’s Hall for Kid's Connection/Connect 56 at 8:40 or 10 am. We encourage every child to be involved in Kid's Connection/Connect 56.

Kid's Connection (K-4th Grade)

Sundays mornings in the Children’s Hall located on the 3rd floor of the Education Building.

Kid's Connection uses “The Gospel Story for Kids” and "The Gospel Project" curriculums. Children are taught how the Gospel of Jesus Christ weaves through every story in the Bible. These curriculums are a unique, three-year program that helps churches and families ground children in the Gospel story from Genesis to Revelation.  At each age level, children are taught the Gospel through age-appropriate illustrations, activities, coloring pages, object lessons, and memorization. There are weekly family-friendly devotionals that go along with the curriculum which is available for you to use at home.

Connect 56 (5th & 6th Grades)

Sundays in the Children’s Hall located on the 3rd floor of the Education Building.

Connect 56 at 8:40am uses “The Gospel Story for Kids” and "The Gospel Project" curriculums.

Connect 56 at 10am introduces preteens to inductive study where they are taught how to investigate the Scriptures and discover for themselves what it means, apply it to their lives and defend their faith to others.  We want preteens to study the Bible for God’s truth, instead of relying on teachers to tell them what is in the Bible.

Policy & Procedures

We strive to provide a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, for all kids and families. One method is our electronic check-in system used on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. Check-in stations enable parents to quickly and easily check-in children, and gives our staff a way to contact parents, if necessary. during the Gatherings. K-6th grade students will need to be checked in and picked up by an approved adult.  A guardian receipt will be printed out at the time of check-in which is required to pick up your child from class.

We also require our leaders to go through a rigorous screening process in order to serve in Highland Kids. If you are interested in being a Highland Kids Leader, please Joanie Swingler.

AWANA

Why AWANA?

AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed." It is a fast-paced, unique way to learn God’s Word. AWANA clubs help churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus.

Wednesday Evenings
Due to the continued threat of COVID-19, we will not be continuing AWANA for the rest of the school year. While we are very sad, we are confident of this decision and are currently getting ready for September. Registration will begin in July.

(SEPTEMBER - MAY)

6:40pm-8:00pm Preschool through 6th grade

The safety of your children is our top priority at Highland. Since the threat of COVID-19 is still real, we have made the decision to not attend Mt. Lebanon's Pre-Teen Camp this year in June. While we are very sad, we are confident of this decision. Thank you for your understanding.
We know that this has bee a challenging time and full of uncertainty for so many of us. In light of recent increases of COVID-19, Pine Cove and Highland has made the decision that for the safety of both campers and staff, it would not be prudent to host Camp in the City at this time.
What does this mean for you? The great news is that we are still planning on hosting Camp in the City next summer.
Because of the current demand on Pine Cove's phone system, they will be able to respond to most quickly to any of your questions via email. Their website address is Pinecove.com.
