MARK 14:22-31
(BREAD), JESUS IDENTIFIES HIMSELF AS THE AFFLICTED ONE WHO WILL DELIVER HIS PEOPLE IN THE ULTIMATE EXODUS.
(CUP) JESUS IDENTIFES HIMSELF AS THE SLAIN LAMB WHO WOULD BE THE SUBSTITUTE AND THE SHELTER
JESUS TAKES OUR PENALTY UPON HIMSELF. AND WE TAKE THE GRACE HE OFFERS.
HOW DO WE TAKE THE LORD’S SUPPER?
- IN HUMILITY
OUR SALVATION DOES NOT DEPEND ON OUR COMMITMENT TO JESUS, BUT JESUS’ COMMITMENT TO US.
- IN COMMUNITY
THERE'S A BASIS FOR UNITY IN THE LORD’S SUPPER THAT IS AS STRONG AS IF WE’VE BEEN RAISED TOGETHER.
What binds us together is not common education or common race, common income levels or common politics, common nationality, common accents, common jobs or anything of that sort. Christians come together because they have been loved by Jesus Christ. They are a band of natural enemies who now love one another for the sake of the cross. - Don Carson
- IN EXPECTATION
ALL THE GREATEST LONGINGS OF OUR HEART ARE GOING TO BE SATISFIED ON THE DAY WE SIT DOWN FOR THAT ETERNAL FEAST.
