Senior Adult Ministers
The Senior Adult Ministry at Highland is focused on encouraging mature people to continue fervently serving the Lord. They know that God is not finished with them, so they seek Him, and share Him with others. Senior adults are a strategic part of the Body of Christ. Their wisdom and faithfulness inspire and motivate other generations of worshippers. Many seniors are intentionally making disciples, some are involved in prayer groups, and many others serve in various capacities. Highland loves our Senior Adults and their love for Jesus!
The Lifestyle of a Disciple Study (Matthew 6) meets on Tuesdays, at 6:30pm, for Senior and Young Adults together from Sept. 2 - Nov. 18, 2025. This challenging, intergenerational study also provides trusted relationships as we share and pray together in small groups. We meet weekly in the Chapel for teaching, and then break into groups. Studying to live the Sermon on the Mount is life- changing!

Seniors host college students! ~ We will host 100 college freshmen on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 11:20am in the Chapel for lunch and fellowship. To connect significantly with them in their first year of college could grant us four years of investing in their lives! Let’s match their number of 100. We’ll buy lunch boxes for everyone, and enjoy sharing life stories as we eat. If you plan to come, let us know by emailing .
Looking Ahead seminar ~ On Monday, Oct. 27, at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall, we will host a seminar on some important issues. Michael Bourland, who deals in elder law, will speak to us about assets, finances, and options for our latter years. Seth Robins and a team from Waco Health-care and Rehab will talk about the multiple levels of care and costs of senior care homes. Only 10% of seniors will need assisted care, but we don’t know if we’ll be among the 10%! Thinking ahead is wise. We’ll serve snacks, but not a full meal as we want maximum time to hear these professionals! Register here:
Friendsgiving ~ The young adults and senior adults are sharing a potluck meal together Saturday, Nov. 8, at 5:30pm, in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring delicious food to share, and let’s enjoy fellowship and fun with our younger family members.
Naomi Christmas party ~ On Tuesday, Dec. 16, our widows and widowers are invited to Kirk and Carol Townsend’s home for a Christmas party. Their address is 3330 Pointe Vista Dr, 76710. Details to follow.

Our Naomi Fellowship is a monthly dinner program for our widows and widowers. The meals are catered and free as a gift to the Naomis. We also use these evenings as fund-raisers for missions (usually TCF Mercy in southern Africa). The programs are inspirational, fun, and usually musical. Meeting together monthly from May through November allows us to fellowship with one another. We meet in the Fellowship Hall from 5-6:30pm. Reservations can be made with Mary Ramos at (956) 206-3285 or with Janet at
The next time we meet will be Oct. 21 when we will pack Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
On Nov. 18, the Classic Voice choir will provide our program following our dinner together.
We are always in need of people who would like to serve on our senior adult ministry team. Contact Janet Ross for more information.
We lead a monthly hymn-sing and devotions for Stoney Brook of Hewitt - Memory Care. Another ministry with music and Bible teaching takes place at Royal Manor in Hewitt one Sunday a month. We also meet at Waco Healthcare twice a month on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We provide a service for Asher Point the last Sunday each month at 10am. We lead a Bible Study at Stillwell Independent Living, Regent care, and The Highlands, also. Carol Haines leads a devotional service for Residences of Ridgewood twice a month. If you are interested in any of these areas of ministry, contact Janet Ross.
Highland currently has 20 people in Senior Care Homes. If you would like to visit and pray with residents, that would be a blessing to them! Contact Janet for a list of residents.
When one of our Senior Adults is ill, has had surgery, or transitioned to Heaven, the Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) and Connection Groups (CGs) usually provide meals. If the person was not in an ABF or CG, the request for food goes to the Meal Ministry Team for a meal train or a meal following a funeral. If you would like to cook or bake for those in need, contact Janet Ross.
We have a Helps Team made up of people who are willing to drive others to the doctor, rehab, or stores. We also have people willing to do repairs or yard work. If you need help or are willing to offer your services to those in need, call Patti Blake at the church office or email
Patti Blake keeps a list of who can do a variety of jobs for our seniors - odd jobs, repairs, household or yard chores. If you are willing to help, please give Patti your name and what you can do. Call her at the office at 254-754-0335.
Watch & Pray is an intercessory prayer gathering that meets on Wednesdays at 4-5:15pm. We pray for Highland concerns, Waco, the USA, Israel, missions, the persecuted church, and other nations. Our desire is to be part of what God is doing - and we do that best through prayer. Join us in the Wellness Center as we agree together for God's will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. All ages are welcome.
Intercessor Leonard Ravenhill wrote: “No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.”
The Sermon on the Mount Discipleship Study meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 for Senior and Young Adults together.
