Our life-givers team is a visiting ministry concerned with bringing encouragement, hope, and joy to shut-ins and those in hospitals, rehabs, and nursing homes. Many of these precious people are lonely, depressed, and in physical pain; we pray our visits will lift their spirits and be a tangible expression of the Lord’s love to them. Not only do we interact with the residents and patients we intend to see, we also reach out to the staff, aides, nurses, and other residents. We realize we are on a divine mission representing Jesus Christ, and we want to touch as many as we can with His love. In Matt. 25:40, Jesus said, “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do to Me.”

When we visit, we read God’s Word to them. Common passages we share are Psalm 23, 91, and 103; Isaiah 41:10, 28-31 and 43:1-2; Romans 8:32-39, Rev. 19: 1, 5-9, 11-16 and 21:1-7.

We pray with them for their needs and as the Holy Spirit directs. Many request prayer for God’s comfort and presence, for His wisdom to their doctors and nurses, kindness from the aides, relief from pain, and grace in varous difficult situations.

Sometimes we take in music; we sing hymns or songs to or with them, or play their favorite music on CDs. We also take Christian magazines and devotionals to leave with them. Sometimes we take in cookies or snacks, flowers, or homemade cards.

Knowing that many in homes or facilities live without affection every day, if they welcome touch, we hug them lightly or hold their hand while we pray. Our hope and prayer is that our visits will bring a sense of God’s presence and leave them feeling closer to Jesus.
