What's this D-Now thing anyway?
Disciple Now is very similar to a retreat, but whereas some retreat weekends are more about getting away and hanging out (which is NOT a bad thing and we do some of that during the weekend as well), DNow Weekend puts a high premium on discipleship. There are Large Group sessions where a guest speaker will deliver messages to the students, and there are super-intentional Small Group times where students go deeper with their college-aged individual small group leaders. It’s a focused time of spiritual growth and application.
Another important aspect of DNow are the “Host Homes.” A host home is where a family in the church (usually parents of teens that attend Highland) agree to host a Small Group for the weekend - we split the homes up by age so that 7th-grade girls are all together, 7th-grade boys are all together and so on. Each home will have host parents present throughout the weekend as well as two college-aged small group leaders who will stay at the host home with their students. For the Small Group time, the leader & the students will meet in the host home for Bible Study (when they aren’t at the church for Large Group sessions or other activities). They will spend Friday and Saturday night at the host home, and eat breakfast as a group there Sunday morning before church. It’s an AMAZING way to have a great portion of our church involved in our ministry.
