We believe the people of God should come together to joyfully worship and to hear God’s Word clearly and unapologetically proclaimed.
Since Acts 2, Christians have gathered. Scripture is full of examples of people coming together to worship in an assembled setting. “Let us exalt His name together,”1 “all the Believers had gathered,”2 “Let us not give up in meeting together.”3
At Highland, we have 3 identical ‘Gatherings’ that meet on Sunday mornings at 8:40, 10, 11:20am, located in the Life Center. The reason we call our worship services, Gatherings, is because, throughout the week, our church scatters and moves out around Waco and throughout surrounding cities, serving our communities, meeting together in small groups, and acting as light in dark places. But on Sunday mornings, we come back together and GATHER as one unified people to exalt and lift up the name of Jesus, and to celebrate together through singing, friendships, preaching, bible study and more.
We would love to have you worship with us at either of our Gatherings each week!
We believe that Christ-followers should grow, allowing our faith to mature as we develop into devoted disciples and faithful disciple-makers.
We are committed to growing in our faith, our knowledge, and our practice. To grow means we are active in studying God’s Word, growing as a disciple of Jesus, giving financially to the church, and deepening our faith. We want our “roots to grow deep into Jesus.” 4 Highland provides Connection Groups throughout the week as well as small groups for all ages on Sunday mornings. We believe every Christian and every member should serve. This means everyone in the church using all their spiritual gifts to serve one another, the lost, the city, the world and ultimately Jesus.
The end result of gathering and growing is our service, our life on mission, and our involvement in our local church. When we go, serve, and participate in the vision and the heart of the church, then we know that we are truly maturing in our faith in Christ. The “going” element is the goal of the process. “You should produce much fruit and show that you are my followers, which brings glory to my Father. You did not choose me; I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and produce fruit, fruit that will last.” 5 Highland has a strategy that reaches the neighborhood and the nations. FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
We do all of this for His name’s sake. We desire our names to decrease, and for His Name to be up in lights. “Not to us O Lord, but to Your Name be Glory.” 6
